  • Bicycle Long Island.
  • Bike Around Long Island.  "We're just a great group of close friends enjoying exercise, the outdoors, adventure, and companionship. There are no sponsors, meetings, or dues. And we try not to be any more serious than absolutely necessary.

Most of us live on Long Island, New York. And most of our trips are on Long Island, although sometimes we drive to other places and combine bike riding with other tourist activities.

This "bike group" began in 1981 amongst a group of friends while standing around in a smoky bar, when the person who would eventually become known to his fellow bikers as "Trail Boss" remarked, "there must be something else that we can do together besides standing around in a smoky bar". Trail Boss had fond memories of bike riding from his not-too-distant youth, and suggested this to his friends. The response was positive, even though most of the group had not been on a bike for over 15 years.
  • Bike New York.  "Bike New York is a non-profit organization established in 2000 to promote and encourage bicycling and bicycle safety education through education, public events and collaboration with community and government organizations. Bike New York produces the largest cycling tour in America, The Five Boro Bike Tour.

The Five Boro Bike Tour began in 1976 as a program of American Youth Hostels. By the late 1990's its growth required a new organization, and a new non-profit was formed: Bike New York, Inc."
  • Century Road Club Organization.   "A bicycle racing club in New York City, CRCA provides coaching and friendly competition for all ages. We hold club races for men, women and juniors in graded races based on ability on most weekends from March through November in Central Park and promote a number of open races each year. We are the largest racing club in the country.

The emphasis of the club is development -- preparing riders to succeed in open races. Expert coaching is free to members. Club meetings are a forum for tips on training and nutrition. Sub-teams within CRCA give members an opportunity to race using team tactics."
  • Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists (CLIMB).  "Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists is a legally incorporated not-for-profit organization dedicated to the growth and safe enjoyment of mountain biking."
  • Fast & Fabulous.  "Fast & Fab, New York’s LGBT bike club, holds weekly rides along with various social events, including a monthly dinner hosted by members at their favorite restaurants. You can get the ride and social listings here on our website, or by subscribing to the Front Runners New York newsletter, which carries a brief version of our calendar. We’re a committee of FRNY and participate in many Front Runner social, athletic and volunteer events.

Once you show up for a club event and it’s clear you are a real person and not a spammer, you qualify for access to our Yahoo groups site, which lets you post rides and see rides or other events scheduled by other members. Communication among members largely takes place by e-mail, so it pays to have internet access.

The rides vary widely in pace, distance, skill level, etc., so it’s a good idea to get in touch with the ride leader and figure out if it’s the ride you want to be on; there are also sometimes last-minute changes. We have a fairly even distribution between men and women, and the vast majority of our riders are not competitive. The only way to know whether we’re a good fit for you is to do some rides, which cost nothing and require only a heads-up to the leader. And if you really and truly fall outside any of our ride categories, we’ll do our best to match you up with someone in the club who rides as fast or slow, for as few miles or as many, as you do."
  • Five Borough Bicycle Club.  "Whether you're into road touring or braving it over the dirt, whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, the Five Borough Bicycle Club has something for you.

Now in its 15th year, the 5BBC is New York's friendliest bike club. Our philosophy is to promote both the physical challenge and the social benefits of life on two wheels.

We offer free day rides within New York City and environs every weekend year-round. We go to the beach and the mountains and most places in between. We also offer affordable weekend trips to Cape Cod, the Berkshires, Pennsylvania Dutch country, and elsewhere.

All club rides are led by 5BBC-trained leaders who make sure you enjoy your biking adventure safely, without getting lost, or getting stuck with mechanical troubles. We also offer bike repair and maintenance courses and have regular club meetings that feature interesting people talking about the incredibly diverse things they've done and amazing places they've gone on a bike. And, if you too would like to become a ride leader with our club, we offer a course that will give you the leadership, bike maintenance, and ride-design skills that can help you to make that happen..."
  • Huntington Bicycle Club of Long Island
  • Long Island Bicycling Club.  "The Massapequa Park Bicycle Club (MPBC) was founded in 1970 by a few bicycling enthusiasts who wanted to get together for some recreational rides on weekends. The club was incorporated in 1974 and since then it has grown steadily in size. It has also grown in its interests so that today it's a 400-member organization active in most aspects of bicycling.
To some of our members the ideal ride is a leisurely trip to a pleasant cafe for brunch. To others it's hammering in a 20+ mph paceline. There are some who say that nothing beats the fun of climbing over fallen trees on a twisting single-track trail in the woods. Some like to move from one kind of riding to another as the seasons change. We even have a bunch that isn't satisfied with just riding so they run off to duathlons and triathlons whenever they get the chance. Whatever your abilities and interests may be the chances are good that you'll find kindred spirits in MPBC.

We like to socialize as much as we like to ride. Besides mixing at our monthly meetings, our annual picnic and our annual dinner-dance, we'll take off on a getaway weekend every so often. In the spring and summer the club runs a couple of cycling weekends at hostel-style lodges. Each winter, after the holidays are over we'll do the same on a ski weekend. Our biggest event though, the one that we hold every summer, is the Tour of the Hamptons."

  • New York Bike Messenger Association.  "The NYBMA is a worker's alliance of the messenger, by the messenger, and for the messenger. Our mission is to unite, represent and advocate for the bike couriers of New York City."
  • New York Bikes.  "NYBC's Mission is to provide a coherent, credible voice for the interests of all bicyclists in the state, on- or off-road, recreational or racer. We achieve this by working with existing cycling clubs in New York and interested individuals.

Ideally, every cycling club in New York should be a member of NYBC. NYBC's strength is in numbers! NYBC can also provide technical support. We welcome your suggestions, questions, and input. Thank you for your support and interest!"
  • New York City Mountain Bikers.  "Our goal is to organize New York City mountain bikers and to educate the New York City Parks Commissioner and elected officials about our sport so that mountain bikers will be allowed to ride and care for the thousands of acres of unused and under-funded parks in the five boroughs.

We are an organized group of volunteers building trails under the guidance of IMBA so we can access safe, inexpensive, and challenging multi-use trails. With proper planning and a little dirty work we will also be stopping erosion which is rampant in most current trail systems in the city. We will also educate all park users about safe and environmentally-friendly ways to use and share our great park system. This must be a city-wide effort as No-Mountain Biking, is a city-wide policy."
  • New York Cycle Club.  "The New York Cycle Club is an educational and recreational organization for bicycle enthusiasts in New York City. Our greatest strength is our 1400 members and a commitment to having as much fun as possible on a bicycle. We organize weekly rides, weekend trips, training programs and special events for novice and experienced cyclists. Join us to have fun, ride safe, get strong, and make friends—all while exploring some of the most beautiful routes in the tri-state area. Whatever aspect of the sport intrigues you, NYCC offers programs and people to get you in gear."
  • Orange County Bicycling Club.  "The Orange County Bicycle Club was founded in the mid ‘80’s for the purpose
of providing safe, non-competitive group rides for the cyclists of Orange County, New York. Membership in 2004 totaled just under 200 riders.  The club consists of riders of all cycling levels and age groups. Some ride for fitness, some for the social aspect, but all members have an interest in organized riding as well as a desire to encourage new riders to participate in the sport. Club rides are generally held in Orange County and vary in length, pace and terrain. "
  • NY Metro Area Recumbent Society.  "The Metro Area Recumbent Society (MARS) is one of the country’s premier recumbent bicycle clubs, with members in at least four states.  We’re a pretty relaxed group, far more so than most bike clubs. We have no formal ride schedule or strict rules, no meetings, no elected officers...  it’s friendly anarchy. Despite this utter lack of organization, we are very active, ride a lot, and are a pretty entertaining crowd to hang around with.  The club is basically a creature of the Internet.  With our membership so widely scattered, we use
the club website and an email list to stay in touch and organize activities. You don’t necessarily have to be on the Net to be in MARS, but if you’re not you’ll miss most of what’s going on.
  • Recycle A Bike.  "Recycle-a-Bicycle is an innovative, fun youth training and environmental education initiative that has taken root in New York City public schools and respected after-school youth programs.

Recycle-A-Bicycle is also a hands-on way to promote everyday bicycle use, learn bicycle mechanics, interact with positive, forward-thinking NYC youth and a good place to find that city bike you need."
  • Right of Way.  "This is the Right Of Way home page. Right Of Way is a group of activists dedicated to asserting the rights of car-free street users -- including pedestrians, cyclists, and skaters -- and fighting back against car violence. Our home base is New York City, but we hope to report on, and help stimulate, action and awareness in other locales as well."
  • Rockland Bicycling Club.
  • Staten Island Bicycling Association.  "Active for over 25 years, SIBA was formed to promote bicycle riding and safety on Staten Island. We appeal to bicyclists who enjoy group riding but don't want to race. We have rides and fun for all skill levels."
  • Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association.  "The Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association, Long Island's largest cycling club, invites you to join us on a variety of rides and events. Organized in 1977, we are a club made up of all ages and cycling abilities. Active members enjoy riding together year round in a relaxed and friendly group atmosphere. Our rides range from short, easy trips for beginners, to moderately-paced tours with snack breaks, to fast, challenging rides for the more competitive minded. Volunteer club members organize group rides, leaving from various locations throughout Mid-Suffolk and the East End. Their routes provide us a wonderful variety of places to tour and explore. Some months there are 80 or more rides to choose from!

Rides can be anywhere from 10 to 100+ miles, with different degrees of difficulty and speed. Therefore, we grade rides by distance, speed, and terrain so you can choose the ones you will be comfortable with. Popular rides tend to be 25 to 50 miles, usually with a lunch or snack stop. Whether your focus is a fast, challenging ride or something more leisurely, come see what fun club riding can be. Our rides are free, and non-members are welcome to come try us out."
  • TIMES UP!.  "TIME'S UP! is a grassroots environmental group that uses educational outreach and direct action to promote a more sustainable, less toxic city. For more than 15 years, TIME'S UP! has worked to educate people about the environmental impacts of everyday decisions, from the food we buy to the means of transportation we use."
  • Transportation Alternatives.  "Transportation Alternatives was founded in 1973 during the explosion of environmental consciousness that also produced the Clean Air and Clean Water Act and the Environmental Protection Agency. Since our founding, T.A. has helped win numerous improvements for cyclists and pedestrians and has been the leading voice for reducing car use in the city. T.A.'s roots are in bicycling, and many of our members are everyday cyclists. But winning a cycling-friendly city means changing the overall transportation system, which, even in mass transit-centered New York City, is still dominated by the private automobile."
  • United Spinal Handcycling Club.  "United Spinal Association is dedicated to enhancing the lives of all individuals with spinal cord injury or disease by ensuring quality health care, promoting research, advocating for civil rights and independence, educating the public about these issues, and enlisting its help to achieve these fundamental goals."
  • Weekday Cyclists.  "We do fun rides during the week...Established in spring 1998, The Weekday Cyclists are adventurous recreational cyclists and welcome others to ride with us.  All our rides are free."
