New York, NY (October 18, 2006) The City that Never Sleeps celebrates Halloween with fabulous festivities that range from the terrifying to the tame. Over-the-top haunted houses, scary movies, costume parties and parades provide plenty of chills and thrills for Halloween revelers in the Big Apple.

Horror of it All

Relive the “Nightmare on 27th Street” when Blood Manor returns with all its gory glory October 6 through 31. Hear bone-chilling tales during “An Evening with Poe” hosted by the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum and Garden October 30 and 31 at 6:15pm and 8pm. Join acclaimed Poe re-enactor Kevin Mitchell as he reads from the letters and tales of the author who penned scary stories such as “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.” This event is appropriate for children over 10 years of age. Friendly Frights and Delights

Aspiring witches and wizards can learn how to make potions, practice pranks and create treats under the guidance of world-renowned Professor of Frightology, Dr. Terwiliger at the Scare School of Madame Tussauds New York from October 4 through 31. As a special treat, kids 12 and under dressed in costume will receive free admission to the attraction and Scare School during the week (October 23 through 27) leading up to Halloween. Treat the kids to Halloween at Richmond Town taking place on October 27 at Historic Richmond Town on Staten Island. Processions, Parades and Parties

Party at Pacha the weekend before Halloween when Jonathan Peters spins on Friday October 27 and Eric Morillo is joined by special guest David Guetta on Saturday, October 28 (212-209-7500, http://www.pachanyc.com).

Kids of all ages will want to don their finest costumes and join the hundreds of puppets, bands, dancers, artists and thousands of New Yorkers for the 33rd Annual Village Halloween Parade, the most over-the-top and largest celebration of its kind in the country happening on October 31. National Comedy Theatre Prepares to Entertain Troops in Iraq

New York, NY –The National Comedy Theatre, one of the leading improv comedy companies in the country, has been selected out of hundreds of entertainment groups to entertain U.S. troops overseas. Starting February 21st, the group will perform as part of a four-week tour visiting troops in Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Djibouti, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. . This is the fourth time that the NCT has been selected to perform for the Armed Forces.

“The Tour is a marathon of shows, travel and little sleep,” says NCT Artistic Director and ‘Big Cheese,’ Gary Kramer. “We will be performing in mess halls, officer’s clubs, theaters, tents and outside facilities. It’s just like Bob Hope’s tours, except for the dancing girls and the celebrities…and Bob Hope,” he adds.

This year, the Tour will be in more dangerous areas, such as Iraq and Saudi Arabia. “The bases in Iraq contain upwards of 10,000 people, all with weapons,” adds Kramer “We’ve been told that we’re safer there than in midtown Manhattan. They obviously haven’t spent much time in the subway.”

In an ironic twist, one of the performers, David Tierney, is a former Marine who served in Desert Storm. This will be David’s first time back to the Middle East since returning home. "I remember the donated care packages that were shipped out to us when I was in Desert Storm/Shield. That touch of home, the knowledge that many people were concerned about me, was incredibly comforting. This is my care package."

According to Kramer, the tour lasts from February 21st to March 18th. Despite the lack of sleep and the comforts of home, Kramer says all of the NCT performers find the tour extremely rewarding. “To hear the laughter of a group of soldiers who are constantly placed in harm’s way is enormously uplifting,” he states. “I think we get as much out of it as they do.”
