The Safest Neighborhoods in New York City

New York City is a vibrant and exciting place to live, but it can also be a dangerous one. With so many neighborhoods to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which ones are the safest. Fortunately, there are some neighborhoods in New York City that are known for their low crime rates and high safety ratings. Tribeca, Roosevelt Island, Battery Park City, City Island, Brooklyn Heights, Kips Bay, Nolita, Bellerose, Jackson Heights, and Flatiron District are all considered to be some of the safest neighborhoods in New York City. Tribeca is located in southern Manhattan on the banks of the Hudson River.

It is home to 19,794 residents and is known for its artists' lofts and for being home to actors, models, celebrities and entrepreneurs. According to the New York City Crime Map, the neighborhood had only 8.62 crimes per 1,000 residents last year. Localize security data indicates that it also has a lower than average crime rate compared to the rest of New York, which is the lowest criminal classification. Roosevelt Island is a narrow island in New York's East River and has 11,661 residents. In the 19th century, the island was home to some of the city's hospitals and prisons.

Nowadays it is comprised of a residential community, parks and landmarks. Localize security data indicates that it also has a lower than average crime rate compared to the rest of New York. Battery Park City is a quiet, mostly residential neighborhood with 13,386 residents. The neighborhood is named after the green space, Battery Park. City Island is a neighborhood in the northeast of the Bronx and part of the Pelham Islands. There are 4,362 residents there and the area is known for its seafood and lobster restaurants. Some attractions offered by the neighborhood include the City Island Nautical Museum, the City Island Theater Group, and three boat clubs. Brooklyn Heights is patrolled by Police Station 84 and the area had 21.23 crimes per 1,000 residents last year.

On the Localize website, security statistics for Brooklyn Heights show that the area has a lower than average crime rate. District 13 (which serves Kips Bay) had 21.92 crimes per 1,000 residents last year. If we look at Localize security data, Kips Bay has a lower than average crime rate compared to the rest of the state. Nolita is one of the safest neighborhoods in Manhattan. Both Nolita's violent crime rate and property crime rate are well below the New York City average rate. Bellerose is located on Long Island and has a population of 4,845 people. This distance has the benefit of making Bellerose more affordable than many of the other safer neighborhoods in New York City. Jackson Heights used to be known as a very dangerous neighborhood (in the district of Queens) for both tourists and New York residents.

However, it has since become one of Queens' safest neighborhoods. Flatiron District is located in Manhattan's most expensive district but still offers an affordable cost of living while providing a safe environment for its residents. Tribeca, Roosevelt Island, Battery Park City, City Island, Brooklyn Heights, Kips Bay, Nolita, Bellerose, Jackson Heights and Flatiron District are all great options for those looking for safety without sacrificing city life.
